Grant Chanter Equine Dentist
The dental practice, which started in 2000, covers Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Hampshire, Wiltshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, London, North Devon and West Somerset.
All of our Equine Dental Technicians are either qualified through the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) dental exam and members of the British Association of Equine Dental Technicians (BAEDT), or are working towards the qualification under Grant’s close supervision. We all have had a wide range of equine experience which we feel is essential. This experience enables us to handle the horse in a patient and professional manner allowing us to perform the majority of our work without sedation (only approx 1% of our patients need sedation).
We like to use manual floats (rasps) where possible for routine procedures as the majority of the horses seem more relaxed with this method. Power tools are used when required. Due to the advance in technology power tools can be used in unsedated horses very safely. However, the horse will be sedated by a vet if we feel the safety of the horse is at risk or if we are unable to carry out the work to the highest standard required for the individual. The equine’s safety is our primary concern!
The practice likes to work closely with many vet practices who use or respect the owners wish to use properly trained EDT’s specialising in this field of work. As a result we believe that there is a greatly enhanced professional trust between the vet, horse owner and EDT which can only benefit the welfare of the equine.
During the last ten years Grant has developed a bit bank service whereby clients of the practice can have the opportunity to gain some bitting advice as well as try a range of bits prior to purchase. This service seems to be very popular for those clients who have bitting issues/ injuries. It also helps the client save money on purchasing bits that do not work.
