Clare McKinstry graduated from Glasgow vet school and has been in first opinion, ambulatory work ever since. The first 2 years of her veterinary career were in the north of England gaining experience in mixed practice before moving to Buckinghamshire where she spent almost 15 years in an equine practice gaining vast experience in all matters equine.
Clare’s main areas of interest include lameness investigations, poor performance in the equine athlete, stud work and more recently becoming fully trained in equine acupuncture. She also has extensive experience in all aspects of stud medicine and particularly enjoys the challenge of artificial insemination (AI) in the sub fertile mare. Clare enjoyed a 6 month sabbatical in New Zealand where she worked purely as a stud vet doing everything from chilled and frozen AI through to embryo transfer and foal care.
Clare’s spare time is split between her 2 year old daughter, who is already showing a keen interest in riding her first pony Beau, and competing her Holstein gelding, Zep. After treating Zep for a life threatening respiratory condition 4 years ago she couldn’t resist taking him on and against all odds he recovered. The pair of them can regularly be seen out on the show jumping and eventing circuit whenever they can. You can contact Clare on her work mobile number 07825 303023 if you have any equine queries.
